Would you vote for Edward Snowden?
By Christopher R Rice
America's political leadership thinks that Edward Snowden is a traitor.
The NSA to date have never been able to demonstrate one instance where they have prevented a terrorist or caught a terrorist through Prism - the Mass surveillance program.
According to Snowden's documents most of the people that were spied on were EU leaders like Merkel and Hollande as well as organizations like the UN. Also many industries in Germany and Brazil were spied on as well as their governments. That is economic espionage not catching terrorists.
Chelsea Manning never got a fair trial, even the EU members of Parliament complained to the US Government about the farce of a trial that Manning received. Why would Edward Snowden agree to go back when there is no chance of a fair trial.
Espionage is not a fair charge as neither Manning nor Snowden were spies for other countries or intending to harm the US. Therefore the charge of treason against whistleblowers (whether you agree with what he did or not) is plain ridiculous. There needs to be a distinction between someone revealing information to the press in the way Snowden and Manning did and someone actively spying on behalf of another country.
Lastly, since the US government is breaking the law - the 4th Amendment and I think the 6th Amendment is he supposed to remain silent. Chelsea Manning, Thomas Drake and Daniel Ellsberg all tried to bring about reform from within and nothing happened until they spoke to the newspapers. Why would it be different for Snowden. Even Ron Wyden has said repeatedly that he is not happy with the NSA and he knows that they are breaking the law, but he is forbidden "by law" to reveal what the NSA have done because of "national security".
Snowden has accused the government of breaking the law (the constitution) - so the government should stand trial for this! Why should only Snowden stand trial? If they want Snowden to face consequences for his actions, they need to have a fair trial, dismiss the Espionage charge as it's not applicable to whistleblowers and they themselves need to stand trial for the charge of violating the US constitution.
America is no better than any other country and in fact we are worse - we have double standards. Always preaching about freedom of rights but look at America's track record.
The NSA has access to a lot of our personal information and launders that intelligence to the DEA, IRS, FBI, police departments etc.
Considering the US Government has a history of attacking dissidents like Martin Luther King Jr, communists and anarchists, do you believe that innocent people are in jail because of ideologically motivated NSA intelligence laundering?
Our leaders have no desire to allow Binney, Snowden, Drake and Tice to testify before Congress. The Supreme Court doesn't want to hear about NSA cases. The US Government does not seem to represent rule of law, democracy or freedom. How can we help the people being targeted by unconstitutional/illegal NSA surveillance if criminals are clinging to power?
"A secretive U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration unit is funneling information from intelligence intercepts, wiretaps, informants and a massive database of telephone records to authorities across the nation to help them launch criminal investigations of Americans.
These cases rarely involve national security issues, documents reviewed by Reuters show that law enforcement agents have been directed to conceal how such investigations truly begin - not only from defense lawyers but also sometimes from prosecutors and judges."
Will James Clapper ever be prosecuted for lying under oath? Will the American people finally realize that none of these people can be trusted?

“The way things are supposed to work is that we're supposed to know virtually everything about what they [the government] do: that's why they're called public servants. They're supposed to know virtually nothing about what we do: that's why we're called private individuals.”

You know what a bunch of Ivy-league frat boys in Washington really is? They are the same television show as the WWF (World Wrestling Federation), with the cartoonish characters, the false bluster, and the staged animosities and skirmishes. It's all for show and none of it is the slightest bit real.
They just go home to their estates and their dynasties during congressional breaks and be smug. Their dreams are completely materialistic and they give no acknowledgement of the damage that their failure to perform their jobs does to the masses of their countrymen.
Our elections have become a bazaar for special interest and corporations, our representatives are merely middlemen and women between the self interest of corporate America and the law making process.
Do we want to spend our precious energy revolting against a system that's designed to crush our very resistance, or do we want another alternative altogether?
The puppets in charge are just that- puppets. They are put there to give us the illusion of free will and a choice. This somehow placates people.
It is necessary for all men and women of good conscience to stand up and be counted. To say, “Enough is enough.” To demand an end to the corporate control of our politicians and political system.
The U.S. was the largest creditor in the world. Now the debt is in the trillions of dollars. Trillions of dollars transferred from the worlds richest and most powerful country. This is a form of destructive economic management at a level of graft and corruption that has NO parallel. There’s nothing comparable to that in history.
As things stand now, with federal taxes, state taxes, county tax, sales tax, property taxes, car tax, gas tax, phone taxes, etc. “They” take 4 months of our wages every year in taxes. For that kind of money we should have the best schools on the planet, right? But every year 30 to 50% of our kids get left behind. Let me repeat, taxes take 4 months of your wages away from you every year. That's true under Republicans or Democrats!
We've allowed our country to be taken from us, for the benefit of the few and the total decimation of the vast many.
In '06 we voted out the republican congress to end the war, and yet, instead we got a surge. We dutifully called our Senators during the first bailouts in opposition 100 to 1, and yet, instead we get even more bailouts for automakers.
It’s not the result of mysterious global forces, or technology, or China, or structural problems concerning the skills and education of our workforce. Rather, it is the direct result of policy choices made by Democrats and Republicans alike.
The U.S. policy (includes tax policy, financial deregulation, trade policy, anti-labor policy, and much more.) for the past 30 years has been aggressively dedicated to shifting income share away from the poor and middle class and into the pockets of the already rich.
In Washington the corruption is so endemic that you just have to think "Really, do we have to vote for these people?" Could we really put pressure on our country to hold elections that were free and fair? Both political parties are thugs, and their not just going to give up power.
